Life and Sydney

Monday, February 4, 2008

So life’s pretty boring right now, but its ok I guess. My Home Schooling will be starting again; Hayley should be doing Home Schooling again with me this year. I think. I’ll be starting dancing again as well. Ballet’s going to hurt because I’ve been away so long. Oh well. Jazz will probably hurt too. Yay for tap! Tap never hurts. I don’t even know if I’ll be able to do tap and jazz, the tap and jazz classes I went to last year are now at the same time as one of my ballet classes, my ballet teacher will probably kill me if I took that class off after all of the time I’ve had off ballet. I’ll have to work it all out with my teachers.

So Sydney was really fun! On the first day we went up to the Blue Mountains. I was tired because our plane was three hours late and I got know sleep on it, I slept a bit in the car, it’s was an ok flight nonetheless, we were on a jumbo jet, and we had our own TV like things and the back of our chairs. The channels nickelodeon and Q Comedy were mixed up just like last time, but I only really listened to the radio.

Anyway, first day: we went to the Blue Mountains, as I said earlier, aside from me being tired I had a good time. We went to Wentworth Falls again; it was a lot less misty this time so you could actually see things! It was fun and really beautiful. We walked down some stairs, with lots a beautiful plants round them, at the end was a lookout. I was an amazing view! I’d put some photos up but there at my dads house, so I’ll have to do it another time. The waterfall was just magnificent! I wanted to go down to the bottom of it, but I couldn’t because Nina (a.k.a Christina) and dad didn’t want to. It was a long walk down and back up those stairs, so I can’t really blame them for not wanting to go down further. It was beautiful anyway! After that we went further up to Katoomba. We went to a place called Scenic World, where we went on the Skyway; it’s a sort of cable car, it was really fun! There was this platform in the middle with glass at the bottom so you could see down at the valley/rainforest below. We were going to go on the Skyway last time but it was way too misty! Seriously! You could barely see ten meters ahead of you! It was annoying when trying to cross the road. But it was ok this year, hardly any mist. So we did some shopping (‘cause you have to go shopping at least once where ever you go.), then we had lunch, then we went back into Sydney. And went to Long Point Camp, where we were staying. There we quite a lot of people there early. Usually they came the day before the conference started. I found out that the youth from the Sydney and Melbourne churches were setting up for Children’s Day (they have one day during the conference for the children. It’s really quite fun. I’m too old for it now being thirteen, it only goes up to twelve.), so they had to come early. And that was Friday, my first day in Sydney.

Saturday, Second day in Sydney: well we got up at around 6 am the next morning, because we had to pick up Jonny from the airport. Then we got lost in Sydney’s, I swear there schizophrenic or something! They don’t even know what they are! We were on a highway that turned into a road at a T junction then turns back into the highway if you go down the right way at the road. Now we didn’t go the right way at this certain road so instead of getting back on the highway we end up in the opposite direction. This was while Nina was reading the road map, so even with a road map Sydney’s roads are still impossible to work your way through. We stopped at McDonalds to have breakfast and work out the way to get to our friends house, which was where we were trying to get to. We did eventually get where we wanted to get to. We spent ages at our friends’ house, it was really fun! Their crazy, but in a good way. We only get to see them once a year so it’s good to visit them. After being at their place well into the after noon, we finally went back to Long Point Camp. There was a lot more people there then there was in the morning (Lots of the people who come to the conference come from Melbourne so they drive up to Sydney; it only takes about a day), so I actually had people to talk to. So that’s day two.

Day three, Sunday: on day three we went to Paddy’s Markets. We walked round, brought a few things all that jazz. In fact day three was pretty boring; we just went to the market, which was fun for me, but not so interesting to tell people about. After we went to the markets we went back to Long Point Camp. There were a lot more people there then the days before so I just hanged with them.

Day four, Monday: on Monday it was Children’s Day, so it was all about the children. There was a children’s meeting in the morning and in the evening, all the kids went to the beach for the afternoon, the older youth went too to look after the kids. Most of the younger youth went as well, I didn’t, because I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to or not. So Nina and I stayed behind. Katrina and Tara also stayed behind because they were making gifts for Judy and Elizabeth (there are heaps of Elizabeth’s). They invited us over to Tara house so we could help with the presents. There were some plays done by the Sydney and Melbourne youth, which were good. All and all it was an ok day.

Day five, Tuesday: not much happened on Tuesday. We had a day off from meetings, because they wanted to pack up all the Children’s Day stuff that was left in the hall. I can’t really remember pacifically what happened that day. I went swimming in the pool, and played round on my laptop. I hanged out with the girls round my age that were there. So not a very interesting day really.

Day six, Wednesday: not much happened on Wednesday either. A meeting in the morning and in the evening. Hanging out during the day. Yeah not much happened. But it was still an alright day. During the evening after the meeting, me, Nina and a few other girls played a Dutch game called jungle something… I can’t remember exactly. But it was really fun. What you do is: you deal out the whole deck, so each player has a pile.

There is a piece of wood shaped like an hourglass in the middle of the table. The objective of this game is to get rid of your pile. You do that by matching your card to another player’s. Each person puts out a card, you do it in a circle, and if you see someone put out a card that matches yours you have to grab the hourglass shaped piece of wood (I forget what they called it in the game.), before the next person flip their card over, or the person who matches yours gets it. There was a bit more depth and more rules then just that, but I can’t be bothered explaining the whole game. We also played Dutch Blitz. Anyway that pretty much sums up day six.

Day seven, Thursday: hardly anything happened on Thursday. I went to the meetings, Went swimming, Hanged out, played games, all that jazz.

Day eight, Friday: Friday was youth day. So as per usual, we went to the beach. We went to Bulli Beach. The waves were horrible! I almost got dunked around four or five times. Luckily they had a pool there. Sea water pool, but it was huge and there were no waves, so I liked it. I didn’t do much swimming. Eat food and watched the sea. Two of the boys were jumping off the cliff into the sand dunes while I was swimming in the pool. I kept swimming for awhile turned back and almost everyone was jumping too. Even Rachel and Tara, It looked fun but I didn’t try it. I was too scared. Even Esther did it twice! I was too afraid to do it once let alone twice! Jonny did it as well. Everyone seemed to have fun. In the evening we had a feast, because it was the last day of the conference. I got nice a dressed up. A Norwegian girl name Helen (I think.) did my hair for my, It looked really nice! I may have a picture of it I’m not sure. All and all it was a good day.

Day nine, Saturday: the day we went home. We left Long Point Camp at around lunch time, and we got to the airport around one or two… I can’t really remember. Our plane didn’t leave till about seven…ish. So we just hanged in Sydney’s QANTAS club lounge. We got into Perth at around tenish. And that is the end of my trip to Sydney.

Now I’ve been writing this blog over the days course. Now it is almost 3 am so I’m off to bed. Good Night.

x Elizabeth.
